1'–5' [. . .] He recalled [Nebuch]adnezzar constantly [in his (i.e. the king's) presence]. His [li]fe was of no value [to him]. He [st]ood before [the king] and the (next) morning he proposed (again) what is good for [Esangila and] Babylon to Amīl-Marduk (but) he did not list[en to him].
6'–10' He (then) made a second attempt to give advice and no one would listen to what he said, (but still) he changed his (the king’s) position (on the matter), and he (the king) did no longer pose resistance (to his advice). When it came to the welfare of Esangila and Babylon and the es[tablishment] of the sanctuaries of the great gods, (the king now) constantly recalled [his cr]eator in his heart.
11'–18' No longer did he care for son or daughter, there was no family or kin in his heart. He paid no attention to all sweet things (of life), (because) his attention was focused on establishing the wellbeing of Esangila [and Babylon]. He went into Kasikilla to pray to the lord of lords. He raised [his hands (in appeal)], crying bitterly (and) his prayers went forth to Marduk <the lord> of the great gods [. . .].
